Quality organic nightwear is probably one of the most important items that you can buy for your child. Why you ask? Well consider how long they spend in nightclothes and the fabric will be in direct contact with their skin. Tests by independent scientists commissioned by Greenpeace found highly toxic substances in a range of consumer products including children's pyjamas. Nonylphenol - thought to interfere with human DNA was found in Disney branded pyjamas as well as in a "Bob the Builder" garment from Mothercare. High levels of the closely related nonylphenol ethoxylate were also found in several children's garments. All the children's garments also contained phthalates, these substances were recently banned from toys for children under the age of three in EU legislation because they can cause liver, kidney and testicular damage (Natural Matters.net) Organic cotton has a number of advantages:-
- Organic cotton benefits sufferers of skin problems such as eczema and psoriasis because it's free of harmful chemicals
- Organic cotton is free from heavy metals such as chromium or copper
- Organic cotton is free from formaldehyde, a known irritant and suspected carcinogen.
- Clothing that we stock is ethically grown and fair trade - the cotton growers and garment manufacturers are all paid a fair wage (no child labour here) and they work in safe, healthy environments without poisonous pesticides.
- Organic cotton is soft, comfortable and extremely durable. Night owl PJ;s
- When cotton is grown organically the fibres are longer and stronger.
For tiny babies we have nightgowns (my particular favourite) babygrows and pyjamas for older children. Designed to allow plenty of room for cloth night time nappies.
