After all the planning and disasters I am finally leaving tomorrow for the show in Glasgow. My brain is completely scrambled at the moment and I am not concentrating on anything very well. Some unkind people might say "no change there then!" Anyway the van is packed and ready and I just have to put my case in tomorrow. I'm not sure what will be happening re the blog for the next few days but I will make every effort to stay in contact and give you all progress reports. This is of course assuming that you want to know! I have had lots of lovely phone calls from people wishing me luck today which is lovely and really encouraging.

I was watching the news item last night about the chap who got a criminal conviction for over loading his rubbish bin. I am not sure what the rights and wrongs are of this particular case but it did strike me as a bit of a hammer to crack a nut. My feeling is that we should firstly tackle the culprits who help produce the  rubbish that gets discarded. It seems to be almost impossible to buy anything that isn't triple wrapped these days most of it is impossible to reuse and it takes an awful lot of room in the bin. If you happen to be family who eats a high amount of ready meals then you will certainly have a high volume of packing. So perhaps we should lobby supermarkets to stop cellophane wrapping everything unless it is essential. I think I have mentioned on the blog before I have found that one particular supermarket even wraps individual vegetables! Oh to have a market nearby so I could trot along basket over arm. But the reality is it ain't gonna happen so we have to be a bit more inventive and find ways around the cellophane wrapping situation. Anybody got any idea's?

I hope the show is going well for you, good luck!

I did think the case of that mand who overfilled his bin was a bit extreme but apparently he didn't even contest the charge in court which I think was very foolish of him. If he was really recycling as much as possible and thought that there wasn't enough room for his rubbish in the bin for the frequency of collection that he has, then he should have stood up and said so when he had the chance.

If you do think there is too much packaging from supermarket goods then a good and highly visible thing to do is to leave all the packaging at the checkout after you pay.
I once bought a box of multiple things which really didn't need to be in an extra box and insisted I leave it there. And just today I gave back a bag that they had put a pair of trousers in which I bought with my groceries. Presumable it was to protect the trousers but it really wasn't necessary and they didn't even ask if I wanted it.
