Another week has gone by and it's sunday again. Why is it the older you get the more time seems to speed up? Went to church this morning as usual and then came home and gave the chickens a good clear out. They love it when I put fresh straw down and are in there almost immediately scratching about. There will probably be a queue for the nest boxes tomorrow because they enjoy fresh straw in there as well. Oh dear reading this you would think I never clean them out; but actually it's about once a week I hasten to reassure all those of you on the phone to the RSPCA!

I was reading a bit about green travel and we all know about getting our bikes out and walking as much as possible. But it's not that simple is it? We don't all live in a place where it's practical to walk or cycle everywhere. Sharing cars is a good idea perhaps doing the shopping with a friend. Keeping your car well maintained so that it doesn't burn excess petrol and oil and checking tyre pressure is another helpful thing to do and only travel in the rush hour if you have too. Catching  a train is apparently the most environmentally friendly mode of travel either for work or pleasure. Most children enjoy the adventure of going on the train.

Many of us enjoy travelling abroad and why not? but perhaps flying for frequent weekends away is not such a good idea even though it is very cheap. We have some beautiful places to visit in our own country after all. A major problem is our public transport system which leaves a great deal to be desired. Many rural areas are lucky if they get one bus a day which makes it very difficult unless it's a days outing. In the highlands we have a post bus driven by the postman but many of those now are going out of service. So I can only say "It's not easy being green". What is public transport like in your area?
