I have been labouring in the garden this afternoon trying to get on top of the weeding it seems like a hopeless task. Trouble is I am not a methodical gardener who just works along a row I keep flipping about wherever I see a weed and the overall effect is not spectacular to say the least! I have really tried to discipline myself to working to a set order but I just can't do it and soon find myself wandering off in another direction. Perhaps I should ask someone to tether me to the spot until its done! I've also cleaned out the chicken shed and given them all the weeds that I have dug up which they love to pick over. They have started laying at last gorgeous dark brown eggs very small at the moment but they will get bigger over the coming weeks. Anyway time to come back indoors now the wind has dropped and the midges are coming out to play.
I have been reading a very interesting blog by Hilary Stamper about breast feeding, we all know its best for baby but some people still seem to have a problem with mothers breast feeding in public even though it is usually done very discreetly. Why? Our culture seems to find breasts acceptable only as purely sexual objects which seems rather strange don't you think? Tiny little girls are dressed in triangle bikini's highlighting flat chests.
As a culture we are trying to get the message out to mothers to breast feed but, perhaps some people do not understand that when a baby latches onto a breast, some fraction of the areola is almost certainly going to show. This could be why publishers unknowingly hinder the normalization of breastfeeding with rules specifying how much of a nursing breast can appear in an image, excluding, “any part of the nipple.” Yet, rules like this effectively prevent people from passing on the healthy knowledge of what a normal latched infant looks like. In addition, they keep breastfeeding on the periphery of acceptable social behaviors: “Breast is best, BUT don’t let me see your nipples!” Extraordinarily hypocritical isn't it yet nobody complains about page 3 pictures. Facebook has dubbed “obscene” and removed unknown numbers of breastfeeding images. How do you feel about this? Have you been placed in an embarrassing situation due to narrow minded predjudice? Love to hear from you if you have a story to tell.
