Another bright and crisp morning when Peter left this morning it was -4 I went out later and took a few pictures in the garden which you might like to see.

You can see how frosty it is on the far side of the river.

I was reading a small article in the paper today entitled 'Eco-crunch warning to world leaders' it was a very small piece on an inside page a couple of paragraphs lost amidst a lot of information about the economy. Anyway the crux of the article was a warning from conservationists (WWF Living Planet report) that the
world is in the grip of an ecological credit crunch potentially far more damaging than the financial crisis. Earths natural resources are being used up to 30% faster than they can be replaced in a reckless environmental spending spree. Resulting in half the countries being in ecological debt and unless the trend is reversed by 2030 it will take the equivalent of two planets to keep up with the demand.

World leaders were warned that they needed to tackle the problems of depleted eco systems in the same way as they have coordinated efforts to revive financial institutions. Pretty important news you might think and likely to have far reaching consequences so why was it buried in a  couple of small paragraphs in the middle of a page? Could it be that the establishment still considers people who are concerned about the environment to be a little cranky? Compare this bit of news to the coverage of the fiasco at the BBC I am heartily sick of hearing about it,  humiliating people seems to be considered funny these days but I for one have never enjoyed or thought it amusing. Its hardly world shattering though is it? Am I missing something?
