A lovely day today with sun and beautiful clear light, there is snow capping the mountains but it's about as unlike yesterday as it's possible to be. We have visitors coming for a few days on Saturday so it was a trip to Alness for some food shopping for me and lots of cooking still to do. I expect some of the local children will be round on Friday for Halloween so I need to have some 'treats' ready.

I have a bit of news for you I have accepted a part time job as a Smoking Cessation Adviser and will not be around for three days a week so I am not sure at this point whether I will continue to blog daily.

I spend a lot of time looking for green tips to pass on and there is an awful lot of repetition but I suppose there are some things that are always worth saying again. I felt very guilty today because I have been trying very hard not to waste food apart from the cost in money there is all the energy and so on used to produce it. But I confess I threw away a half pot of philadelphia cream cheese. I must try harder. Anyway here are some tips that may be of interest.

 1. Forget the drinking straw at any and all restaurants.

2. Step down one heat setting while washing clothes. Technically, you can wash everything on cold; but if you’re freaking about losing the heat, just use the warm instead of hot water setting.

3. Use both sides of your paper when printing.

4. Unplug your cell phone charger when it’s not charging. Bonus points if you step it up and unplug at least four more household electrical items.

 5. Buy a reusable coffee filter.

6. Turn the heat cycle off on your dishwasher - just open the door and allow dishes to air dry.

7. Next time you go out for ice cream, try a cone vs. a throw away cup and spoon.

8. Buy three organic food items the next time you go shopping. Three valuable organic food items to try are organic milk, organic apples, and organic cheese.

 9. This week buy less stuff. You know, at the supermarket you think you need this and that. Well, this week put one item back. Create a smaller footprint for yourself and save some £.

10. Teach your child, best friend, sister, grandpa, or whoever, about one of the green steps above.

So there you are I hope these are helpful.
