Well I'm slightly miffed! I joined a very well known forum who  shall remain nameless today and encountered a heated discussion on spamming and people who only join forums to promote their business. Well I have to hold my hands up to that being at least part of the reason I joined but not the only one.

When you don't have a huge advertising budget you have to try other ways of getting 'out there'. Surely all green businesses need to get the message across to consumers and it's not only for huge wealthy corporations to do that, but how much easier it is for them. Money talks and if you can spend mega amounts on glossy advertising you get noticed but is that truly the ethos of the green culture? For example many of the problems associated with cotton production have been created by greed and not caring about either people or the environment. Now if I try and promote my site I do not consider myself a 'spammer'. My other reason for joining ethical forums is that I am genuinely interested in articles and information printed and I learn from it and I'm not too proud to say I have a lot to learn. Anyway enough of my ranting.

We have just been out for a very pleasant walk with the dogs although the weather is still a bit dismal, it is clear and has stopped raining. This is supposed to be my day off from Sones but I still find myself drawn to my computer if only to write my blog which by the way I am enjoying doing it's rather therapeutic I find to get your thoughts down. What do you think, am I a spammer and just kidding myself I.m not?
Speak soon,
Linda

Hi - I've had a similar experience with a particular forum (although I actually wasn't particularly aggressively promoting my business - anyone that knows me knows that if anything I tend to not do as much as I should on that front).

How frustrating for you!

Dear Linda,
We have enjoyed reading your daily activities on the new blog!
Being a technophobic dinosaur I don't really know what a blog is let alone how to reply to one.
The photo of your lovely grandson is very appealing, as is your website.

Dear Linda,
I forgot to add that I do not consider you a spammer!
I know that you would have eaten such a delicacy in the swinging sixties possibly covered in batter and lightly fried in lard, but I am fully aware that your eating ehtic has changed and you now eat organic wholesome food. Nik

Hi Linda
Just joined the forum I think you're referring to a couple of days ago. I haven't seen the discussion you mention, but I've seen other instances of the same argument on other forums. My view - you're doing absolutely nothing wrong in promoting your business on a business forum. If you're willing to take part in discussions and become an active member, then why not. If Alan Sugar appeared on the forum, and mentioned Amstrad, I'm sure nobody would take issue and accuse him of promoting his business. So, the same rule should apply to us smaller fish.

Good luck with the site.

Paul

Hi Linda, I do not think you are doing anything wrong in promoting your business in any way you can. That is what business is all about. I think it is a lot of jealousy. Ignore it and keep going. Quite agree with Paul.s comments re Alan Sugar. Good luck, Sylvia.
