A wet and windy day in the Highlands. But I did a link Yippee
By Linda on 29/02/2008 16:37
What has happened to our weather? It doesn't seem very long since I was telling you the weather was glorious. Well its poo at the moment. I had to leave the chickens in their inner run today in case they blew away. This just does not amuse them at all even though I took down some fresh straw for them this morning they look bedraggled and stroppy. Shula and Minnie aren't too happy either because after my soaking yesterday I was not in the mood for a repeat performance today. Both cats have very sensibly remained in the byre today at least someone shows some sense!

As usual for me I suddenly thought of some things I wanted to add to my order for the new clothes that are arriving soon. They are gorgeous and I cannot wait to see the children from the mother and toddler club wearing them. It will have to be indoors though unless this weather improves otherwise the poor little things will freeze. I have taught myself how to put a link in today you'll find it on my home page. Only problem is it se ...

Busy Day!
By Linda on 28/02/2008 18:44
It's been one of those days today when I don't seem to have stopped at all. I took the dogs out early this morning and left in sunshine and yes you can guess can't you we were miles from anywhere and it bucketed down. It was a very bedraggled threesome that finally arrived home. A quick turnaround then off to Inverness which is about 50 miles from here. I had an appointment for a haircut.Next called in to Seoris who does my graphics and pestered him with details about the Glasgow exhibition. I'm sure I'm driving the poor man mad but he's too polite to say so! How do the rest of you cope with deadlines? I have to have it all sorted otherwise it drives me mad (and everybody else in my vicinity).

I've been thinking a lot about the website and we have a photo session planned at Jacobs playgroup in the next couple of weeks which should be fun. Hopefully you will see the results soon.

I've been surprised at what a chord I struck with folk when I had my moan about forums callin ...

A walk by the Loch
By Linda on 27/02/2008 16:05
Mixed weather today I took the dogs to Loch Migdale which is a very pretty walk through woods along the side of the loch. Left the car and it started to rain but beautiful sunshine a short time later. Shula had her usual swim and spent the rest of the time whacking the back of my legs with the large stick that she thought I should throw for her. I'm glad to be able to report that the chickens seem to be back on form and fulfilling their full egg quota's everybody will get their eggs this week.

I have recently spent a bit of time (ok a lot of time!) chatting on forums  which is really a bit addictive but very useful people seem to be very willing to share their expertise. Well that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it. But honestly websites seem to be a complete minefield of things you can do wrong either through blissful ignorance or the wrong advice. What a depressing thought!! I shall try to cheer up in time for my next post tomorrow

Another day in the highlands
By Linda on 26/02/2008 17:32
I've had a very busy day today I had to drive to Wick which is almost at John o Groats it's about 75 miles and it took me about an hour and a half it's a very winding road. Driving here is very easy compared to the south but the distances are much more. Apparently it's only one person per square mile in Sutherland the lowest population in a county in Europe I believe. A round trip to the supermarket takes me an absolute minimum of 4 hours including shopping time. I usually make a day of it and do so many other things that I run around like headless chicken.

Since I've been back I've been trying to sort out clothes for the autumn and winter very time consuming I seem to spend hours trying to decide what you are all going to like. But I hope I've made some good choices certainly there are some lovely bright colours which seem very popular. Spring and summer clothes are due to be delivered next week and then I shall have a busy time putting them all in the shop. But it's quite exciting when I ...

Blowing my trumpet for another site!!
By Linda on 25/02/2008 15:56
Monday again and another week gone by. Today I would really like to tell you about an online magazine called Generation One it's for all you mums out there and is really friendly and informative I have posted a link on my link section. There is a cool forum with lots of lively discussion.

My daughter in law Sian and Jacob of course came to lunch today and I was showing her some of my idea.s for Sones she gave them the thumbs up luckily. I find it very useful to have a younger woman to give me feedback I kid myself that I am young at heart but sometimes I think the young in years have a better handle on things. By the way I have taken the sale section out for now but there are still lots of bargains in the shop so take a look when you have a chance.

We have snow on top of the mountains today and there is a very cold wind but it hasn't stopped Shula and Minnie from wanting to be outside as much as possible. Minnie has been in the chicken run again trying to eat their food ...

Happy Birthday Blog
By Linda on 24/02/2008 16:04
It may well be a bit premature to celebrate but my blog is 2 weeks old exactly today so Happy Birthday and many happy returns. A very changeable day today weather wise early on the loch was blue and sunlit and a few minutes later dark and stormy. Church as usual this morning which I enjoyed and then dog walking which was not particularly enticing given said weather. Well what do you know it waited until we were up in the hills and then threw everything at us rain, sleet, hailstones and a strong wind.Got back and mellowed with some brie,  biscuits and fruit and a large glass of white wine which is my preferred tipple.

Sones is very quiet today nothing happening. I am going to do some cooking this afternoon Jacob is coming to lunch tomorrow and will be raiding the cupboard to see whats available. He will be upset if there are no dibbies and cake. Don't worry I can hear you tutting in disapproval, I will make some lentil soup as well full of goodness for a growing boy. I have a nice ...

Give the small business a chance
By Linda on 23/02/2008 16:03
Well I'm slightly miffed! I joined a very well known forum who  shall remain nameless today and encountered a heated discussion on spamming and people who only join forums to promote their business. Well I have to hold my hands up to that being at least part of the reason I joined but not the only one.

When you don't have a huge advertising budget you have to try other ways of getting 'out there'. Surely all green businesses need to get the message across to consumers and it's not only for huge wealthy corporations to do that, but how much easier it is for them. Money talks and if you can spend mega amounts on glossy advertising you get noticed but is that truly the ethos of the green culture? For example many of the problems associated with cotton production have been created by greed and not caring about either people or the environment. Now if I try and promote my site I do not consider myself a 'spammer'. My other reason for joining ethical forums is that I am genuinely interes ...

Another wet and windy day!
By Linda on 22/02/2008 16:35
I had to deliver our tom cat to the vet today for his alterations and had planned to take the dogs to the beach after I had dropped him off. But the weather was AWFUL rain/snow wind yeeuch! So we didn't go to the beach but I did take them for a walk around the loch(not all the way round).
Shula had a swim honestly nothing puts that dog off and we all got extremely wet. I think I mentioned the other day how low our river was, well not any more it's like a raging torrent! It's amazing to me how quickly it can change even Shula looks askance at it when it's like this. I left the chickens in their inner run this morning I thought they might get blown away literally but they are very ungrateful and were extremely annoyed with me. They were all sitting on the roof seeking an escape route when I went down at lunchtime.
They are like a bunch of feathered Houdini's and seem to be able to get out all the time then they arrive triumphantly at the back door having eaten everything on route.

A very wet day in the highlands
By Linda on 21/02/2008 17:32
It's a stinker of a day very windy and raining hard. We've been spoilt by our recent spell of fine dry weather. I had to drive to Dingwall today which is about 50 miles away toward Inverness for a meeting with Seoris who does the graphics for the website. Every crofter seemed to be out on his tractor towing a large trailer on the way! although they are usually very accomodating and pull in to let you pass if they can.

We were having a meeting about the Glasgow show and how my clothing etc will be displayed. Seoris is expert at doing this but I am a total novice as I've already mentioned so have been having sleepless nights worrying( I like to get my worrying done well in advance). Any way I came home feeling much reassured because I had an action plan. It must be because I'm a nurse but I love action plans they make me feel safer. I think the show will be terrific and I'm looking foward to meeting people and showing off my lovely organic cotton clothes and baby skincare. How do you cope wi ...

Gosh it's wednesday already
By Linda on 20/02/2008 13:55
I'm sorry but I'm running out of original titles! So glad that some people are posting comments it's nice to know I'm not alone in this blog. Quite a bit of frost this morning and grey skies. I took the dogs up the river for a walk the water is incredibly low at the present and Shula had a paddle. Minnie finds it difficult to understand how any self respecting dog can enjoy having wet paws not to mention undercarriage.

I read rather a thought provoking article in the weekend paper that I thought you might be interested in if you haven't read it already. The author suggests idle parents=happy children. An unhealthy dose of the work ethic is threatening to wreck childhood. Years that should be devoted to play and joyful learning are being stifled by targets and tests. He further goes on to say that pushy parents don't help by making childhood a stress filled time of striving and competing.Days are crammed with activities making kids over stimulated and unable to organise their own entertainm ...
