Another busy Monday in the back of my shop. I have been trying to recategorize everything in the shop to make it simpler to get around and find what you are looking for. It's quite a time consuming and boring task and very repetitive but I've done it finally. Hopefully you will see the results of all the 'modernisation' by next week. I wanted to let you see this picture of Jacob because I thought it was so sweet. Can you come up with a suitable caption?

The poor cat doesn't look very impressed does it?
On a more serious note -Only 2.5 percent of the world's farmed land is used to produce cotton,
but more than a quarter of the world's pesticides are poured onto these crops,
making them the most polluting on the planet. So buy organic cotton

It's the chickens birthday! |

Another week has gone by and it's sunday again. Why is it the older you get the more time seems to speed up? Went to church this morning as usual and then came home and gave the chickens a good clear out. They love it when I put fresh straw down and are in there almost immediately scratching about. There will probably be a queue for the nest boxes tomorrow because they enjoy fresh straw in there as well. Oh dear reading this you would think I never clean them out; but actually it's about once a week I hasten to reassure all those of you on the phone to the RSPCA!
I was reading a bit about green travel and we all know about getting our bikes out and walking as much as possible. But it's not that simple is it? We don't all live in a place where it's practical to walk or cycle everywhere. Sharing cars is a good idea perhaps doing the shopping with a friend. Keeping your car well maintained so that it doesn't burn excess petrol and oil and checking tyre pressure is another helpful thing to do a ...

What a glorious day. |

What a glorious day! I decided to play truant from the kitchen where I had loads of cooking lined up and go for a tramp with the dogs.
We headed out of Lairg towards a small village called Rosehall on the way is a forestry track that I haven't been on before. Now I'm afraid I have to wax lyrical here. It was so beautiful with blue sky and green in any direction you cared to look. The path was quite steep but I thought it must be good for the buttocks! (I'm a bit of a pear). We saw loads of frog spawn in the pools along the way and several curlew and even a beastie. OK so it wasn't exactly the Monarch of the Glen just a wee girly but hey. As we got higher there were beautiful views of rolling hills and mountains with snow on the top. Little burns were tumbling down the hillside over the rocks. We didn't see a soul up there and eventually came to a small bothy built of rock with a turf roof at this point we decided to turn back. Shula found a peat bog and liberally covered herself so that mad ...

Well here I am again! I have been busy again putting some of the new clothes in the shop and sorting out pictures and so on. If you would like to look at some of the new clothes go to
I have a couple of things I wanted to share with you today. Firstly I was looking at tips on recycling and there were on or two interesting idea's you can wash and reuse the inner waxed bag in cereal packets for packaging sandwiches or even packing fruit and vegetables into at the supermarket to save using plastic bags. Another idea is to make a notice board from corks this comes courtesy of www.junkk.com
There was an interesting article in the Soil Association newsletter about eco tips. Obviously we buy local produce if possible to save energy from transporting goods but it is not that simple. Unless what you buy is in season then it has probably been forced in a greenhouse or kept chilled so something to think ...

I am writing my blog very late today because apart from a walk with the dogs I have been hard at work on my shop all day. Apologies if you have been looking in there today and wondering what is happening if it keeps changing and bits disappearing I'm afraid it was me. I have changed the sizes so that there is a drop down box instead of a row of the same picture. Take a look and let me know what you think. This is the first part of my programme to simplify the shop. Tomorrow I shall start adding some of the new summer clothes and the next project after that is to make the categories a bit easier.
It's taken me a while top work out what needs doing in my initial naivety I thought that once you had your website up that was that. I know I changed small things like offer of the month etc but I had not anticipated changing the bigger things. But you live and learn as they say so keep watching. Here's a link so you can go and visit

What a beautiful day! We went for a walk with the dogs on the beach at Dornoch there were blue skies and the sea was all sparkly and all the hills around were covered in snow. Made me realise again why I love it here.
I have heard that there are quite a few people who are following my blog regularly now so come on don't be shy join in and post some comments. After all you can't let me have it all my own way can you?
I have been sorting out my office/storeroom I'm convinced my stock is breeding there seems to be so much of it! When we get our building work done I shall be able to move into a bigger room and I might be able to see the wood for the trees. My recycled paper carrier bags that I ordered for the baby show are almost ready they will have my logo and website address on them. If anybody is interested in recycled packaging I recommend The tiny box company very helpful people.
I am planning to write a new article about organic ...

Let children be children |

Hello again! I've been busy today on the website updating and a very nice lady who lives locally came to the house to buy some babygowns. She is a child minder and we had a chat about the clothes people put their children in. It really should be all about comfort and softness we agreed. I know that kids can look really cute in some high fashion outfits but the all important question you should ask yourself is "Are they comfortable" surely they have their whole lives to worry about looking the part childhood is such a precious time. I don't think you need to compromise comfort and looking good anyway some of the pictures that I have of Jacob wearing organic cotton are lovely and I think he looks cool as well. (perhaps I may be a tiny bit biased!)
I wrote an article about this very subject some time ago asking whether you wanted your kids to look like kids or be mini adults. I have to say that some of the fashions you see in shops particularly for little girls are downright distaste ...

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow. Yep we've got loads of it and it seems to have continued throughout the day. Minnie nearly got lost in a drift this morning and I fell in up to the thighs twice when we walked up the river with the dogs. Shula just can't understand why theres nothing there when she trys to pick up snowballs. Apart from my foray out with the dogs this morning I have kept indoors where its warm.
I have been writing a press release about our photo shoot and the SECC in Glasgow next month. I have also given an interview to the Sunday Post about Sones and it comes out on the 4th April or is it the 6th not sure. Anyway I can't wait to see what they have to say. Caroline the reporter I spoke too seems very friendly.
I have also just ordered from a new supplier some lovely baby tee shirts with pants. I have got co ordinating colours really bright and funky. At the moment I am waiting for the alterations to the shop before I put the new sto ...

I'm sorry but I just have to mention the weather! We've had wind and driving snow and it's really cold. We took the dogs out this afternoon in a snow storm and got soaked. I'm off shortly to do my bit singing in the choir not looking foward to facing the great outdoors again. I'm quite excited because next week hopefully we are going to start making some alterations to the shop so please bear with us if you have any problems with the site next week. Hopefully it won't be too disruptive and will be much improved. (fingers crossed!).
I wanted to tell you mums out there about a site that I found recently called Earth mother party bags it's a great idea Fairtrade and ethical items in a low cost party bags for kids. Check it out and see what you think. I'm afraid this is going to be rather a short blog as I'm much later posting it than usual where did the day go? Just back from singing in the choir and I'm ready for a glass of wine and a warm fire.

Wisdom of Mahatma Ghandhi |

"We must become the change we want to see in the world" Mahatma
Ghandhi. Pretty cool statement huh? I found this comment and thought it
was very pertinent to the world that we live in now even though it was
obviously said a long time ago and presumably referred to the political
situation in India at the time. But has it got any easier to become the
change? I don't think so but perhaps you have other ideas. I think
this spoke to me particularly after the comments I made yesterday about
wrapped produce and how I for whatever reason went along with
it and bought them anyway for convenience. What would you have done?
How do you see the world in the next 50 years do you think it will be a
better place? Most people you meet seem to hanker for a past that is
tinted with rose coloured spectacles. I think that perhaps we have more
care for the world community now than we did in the past and that can
only be a positive thing. Maybe it's just that the world has got ...
